Lawrence Bender is an Academy Award-winning American producer famous for such popular movies as Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, An Inconvenient Truth, and The Mexican. He was born in the Bronx, New York. Lawrence Bender grew up in New Jersey and graduated from the University of Maine in 1979. With a degree in civil engineering, Bender entered the film business by working as a grip on the television series Tales from the Darkside. He then went on to produce his own films starting in the late 1980s.

His movies have been nominated for 29 Academy Awards. Three of these films, Good Will Hunting, Inglourious Basterds, and Pulp Fiction, were nominated for Best Picture.

My favorite movie by Lawrence Bender is The Mexican. While this movie is sometimes overlooked in relation to his other work, it is a funny and exciting crime comedy. Brad Pitt gives an entertaining comedic performance as Jerry Welbach, a hapless member of the mob whose girlfriend Samantha (Julia Roberts) wants him to get out of the business. His boss gives him an assignment to steal an antique pistol called “The Mexican.” When he decides to take the job, his girlfriend throws him out.

It isn’t that difficult to find the gun, but getting the gun back involves many near-misses, shootouts, and comic mishaps. One memorable scene involves Jerry on a donkey.

While Jerry is in Mexico, Samantha is kidnapped by hitman Leroy, played by James Gandolfini. The scenes with Samantha and Leroy are even funnier than those with Jerry.

The movie is uneven at times, but the weird mashup of romantic comedy and crime movie make for an entertaining experience. The movie is quite violent, though not on the same scale as a Quentin Tarantino film. Lawrence Bender has been Tarantino’s business partner and worked on many of his films. If you are looking for an underappreciated mob comedy and don’t mind a violent film, The Mexican might be for you.

According to him, it was an avenue that his House used to honor the entrepreneur focusing on his individual potential.
The member of the legislature further stressed the role Guimarães has played in supporting sports activities and especially when he was the president of Atletico Mineiro team between 2001 and 2006. Ricardo Guimarães’ take on sports in Denmark
According to Ricardo Guimarães of BMG, Denmark is one of the countries that largely support children involvement in sports activities. In a report that was released on GloboEsporte.com, Ricardo explains that more than 86 percent of children are involved in sports activities. Despite the huge investment the country has invested in sports activities, it is not interested in hosting major championships like the Olympic, reports Guimarães.
Demark has about 11,000 sports federations and 1,600 football clubs and many more handball teams. Guimarães says that the Danish government has set $1 million as saving for every child born, in respect to health, education and also sports. The executive reports that Brazilian children are introduced to balls at their feet while in Denmark they grow with balls in their hands. Additional information is found on ricardoguimaraesbmg.com.

There has been criticism of the Academy Award’s all white nominees with not much diversity. Cheryl Boone Isaacs who is the firs black African-American president of the Academy had told the Associated Press that she wants to try and create a more diverse voting body. 93% of the voters are white and 76% are male. The average age of a voter is 63.

“In the last two years, we’ve made greater strides than we ever have in the past toward becoming a more diverse and inclusive organization,” Boone Isaacs went on to say, “Personally, I would love to see and look forward to see a greater cultural diversity among all our nominees in all of our categories.”

Fersen Lambranho is surprised to find that all 20 acting nomination went to only white actors and actresses. That hasn’t happened since 1995.

The film Selma had gotten a Best Picture and Best Original Song nomination but the director and actors in the film were both snubbed for nominations – the Academy has a voting pool of over 7,000.

Isaacs goes on to say that the Academy continues to make strides to becoming a more diverse and inclusive organization. But these statements have still not sat well with the people of social media.
