To bounce back from a near fatal incident that occurred during an activity you love, you really have to take a long look in the mirror and find yourself.
That is exactly what Squaw Valley Ski CEO Andy Wirth ended up doing. Andy Wirth has been an absolute boon to the Reno-Tahoe area ever since his company took up land and implemented themselves as a world class ski resort for travelers from every country you can think of.
Wirth runs his company the same way that his customers enjoy the slopes: looking for thrills while focusing on the next big jump. It was that next ‘big jump’ that nearly put Anty Wirth into an early grave.
Andy is the kind of guy that doesn’t stay inside on the weekends. He’s an avid cyclist and swimmer as well as a certified skydiver.
Iron Man says that for years Andy Wirth jumped without incident after learning the ropes from a Red Bull athlete by the name of Sean McCormick. However, things went awfully sideways during an October jump back in 2013. Winds were blowing and the pilot flying the divers took a poor route.
The end result was Andy Wirth putting down (read more at http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887323846504579073381471958044) into a vineyard, sideswiping a pole, and losing his arm in a bloody and deadly tragedy. Only Wirth’s calmness under pressure and his ability to offset shock would end up saving his life.
Now we’re three years away from the accident and numerous surgeries, as well. In their About.me page said that Andy Wirth has bounced back fully but you’ll see him take it a bit slower when it comes to his weekend activities.
Still, that doesn’t mean the Squaw Valley CEO is allowing himself to grow complacent. Wirth has teamed up with a group of Navy Seals in support of the Special Warfare Warrior Support Team which raises funds for injured Navy Seals as well as their family.
Andy Wirth is partaking in the IRONMAN 70.3 of Lake Tahoe and he’ll do it with all of his trademark gusto. Wirth is still finding his way back around a bicycle and inside of a swimming pool but he hopes to get back to his former place, where he was a competitor at all times.
We all love our comfort foods like pizza and popcorn. We know that we are not supposed to eat these comfort foods in large quantities because they are not always the best food for us to frequently eat. What many people don’t know is that the box that your pizza is in or the bag that you just microwaved your popcorn in, are very unsafe due to a number of chemicals that are used in their production.
The problem with pizza boxes is that there are a number of chemicals that are designed to prevent grease from being able to soak through the box. These PFSA’s, also known as perfluorinated chemicals, are a waterproof substance that are not only used on pizza boxes but also frying pans, jackets and more. A group of scientists from Madrid explained in their article “The Madrid Statement”, that these chemicals are not only bad for our health but also for the environment.
FreedomPop says that the inside of popcorn bags are lined with the same chemicals. This prevents grease or butter from leaking to the outside of the bag and it protects the popcorn during the popping process. The C8 that is emitted has been linked to high cholesterol, colitis, testicular cancer, kidney cancer and pregnancy induced hypertension. It is expected that the United States will phase out many of these chemicals by the end of the year, but in the meantime it is ideal to stay away from these types of products.
PETA and other animal rights groups have been very vocal about the treatment of whales and dolphins at SeaWorld. The documentary “Blackfish” didn’t help relieve any of the negative press about the sea park. In fact, it was a wake-up call, and people around the country are beginning to hear the message. The message is plain and simple. Intelligent forms of sea life should not be held captive in sea parks for any reason.
Boraie tells us that the reason is simple. We call that behavior torture when humans are locked in small quarters for an extended period. Whales and dolphins roam the oceans in family units. They swim as naturally as we travel by car from state to state. Their quality of life is diminished in captivity. They are separated from family members, and they lose their ability to hunt for food. They are deprived the thrill of being free.
SeaWorld puts these animals through this torture to make money. But the CEO of the park says the theme park has gotten a bad rap lately. A lot of the information reported by animal groups is false according to interim CEO David D’Alessandro. But most people know D’Alessandro is trying to protect his company’s bottom line not the welfare of the whales and dolphins.
The technological development leads to a more complicated step for its developers: making the smart devices communicate with each other. Good progress is already out there, and now it has reached an unexpected item in your house- your mattress. Yes, NJSpotlight reports the mattress you sleep on became a device as well. Nowadays it can detect whether you are asleep or getting up. Depending on that, it will send signals throughout your house to the other devices connected to your morning routine. The coffee machine will be started, the lights will be switched on. For the couples who have the dilemma of sleeping in colder or warmer environment, the mattress will be a finding.
It can be regulated to warm more on one side while staying colder on the other. Once noticing that those who are laying in bed are falling asleep, the mattress can send signals to switch off the light, lock doors, disconnect any other working smart devices inside ones home.
The smart mattress will be sold for about $250. It is washable and stores the daily information just like the smart apps that you use to control your fitness level.
Captain America: Civil War is shaping up to be almost as big a deal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Avengers movies. First with the persistent rumors of the Sony/Marvel deal letting Spider-Man have a cameo, and now with the announcement that Hawkeye will be a character in the upcoming project, Jeremy Renner has just confirmed that he has extended his contract to play the archer to include joining Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man and Scerlett Johansen’s Black Widow in Cap’s next movie.
In the story seen here
goes on to say that he has completed filming some scenes for the connected Marvel television show Agents of Shield stated Marcio Alaor BMG
. Apparently he will share some screen time with Adriene Palicki who stars as Mockingbird in the series. This would only make sense since the pair has a relationship in the comics. The story also hints at the side he will choose during the Civil War. Hawkeye is not a company man, but he is intensely loyal to his friends. When Cap or Nick Fury call, he is sure to come to their aid. Maybe we will even get to see some of the antagonism between him and Iron Man that is seen in the comics.
The winter months are very competitive for new stations. They are all fighting for ratings and to get the most viewers. Last week NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams revealed some untruths that he told concerning the Iraqi war many years back. After Williams admitted his dishonesty, he was given a six-month suspension from the newscast. Now, NBC Nightly News has lost more than just Williams. Zeca Oliveira has heard that the scandal resulted in the loss of approximately 700,000 viewers. The timing for this couldn’t have been worse.
Anchorman Lester Holt has took over at Nightly News since the departure of Williams. The past two weeks of Nightly News has resulted in about 9.4 million viewers per show. NBC Nightly News averaged 11.6 million viewers per week for the same period last year. Williams was host at this time.
Despite the nearly 10.1 million less viewers per show, Nightly News is confident the numbers will once again rise. Spokesmen state that this can only be expected amidst such a strong controversy. The show, minus the ‘with Brian Williams’ sub-title, is still the most watched nightly news show in America, but now only by slight margins.
Being in a family business is one thing, but it is something else to be able to work alongside your father in a career field. However, that is something that Laura Elliott has just been able to do as she got an opportunity to fly across Europe as her father’s co-pilot.
Peter Elliott has been a pilot for over 30 years, and when his daughter Laura said she had an interest in flying too she became a pilot as well following in her father’s footsteps. Laura Elliott had an interest in getting into the same career since a young age, but never thought that she would have an opportunity to fly with her dad since they worked for different airlines. However, the two had a chance to do so as they took a large passenger plane from Birmingham to Tenerife.
According to an article found on Buzzfeed News, Peter Elliott waited until they were in the air to announce to his passenger crew that his co-pilot was his daughter and that they were flying together at work for the first time. Flavio Pentagna Guimaraes BMG knows that it isn’t too common to be able to do such a thing, so both pilots were ecstatic that this opportunity had risen. Laura had thought that her father would be retired by the time she would get to the level she is at, so this rare event has delighted both her and her entire family.
There’s a horserace developing at Sony Pictures Entertainment after co-chairman Amy Pascal’s announcement that she will be leaving the studio’s number-one creative job. In the wake of the hacking scandal that left Sony’s inner workings wide open to the eyes and ears of a curious public, Pascal’s decision to make an early exit from the Sony brass has led to a number of front-runners under consideration for the influential and lucrative studio executive job.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, chief among those under consideration is Tom Rothman, who now works as head of Sony’s revitalized TriStar label, but is perhaps best known as the former head of the 20th Century Fox feature film division. A veteran of the film industry who, like Pascal, enjoys strong relationships with the notoriously hard-to-please top talent Sony would like to recruit for its feature films going forward.
Rothman is certainly qualified for the position, but the Sony hacking scandal that may or may not have been perpetrated by the North Korean government has left him with some questions to answer for of his own. For example, in leaked internal Sony emails that were made public during the breach, Rothman was found to have mocked superstar Will Smith and his wife Jada for their decision to homeschool their children.
Rothman was reportedly in England at the time of Pascal’s announcement of her moving toward a producer’s role at Sony, leading some industry insiders to believe he is not being considered for the job despite his current ties with the studio and reputation for deft handling of large film budgets.
Other industry executives reportedly being considered for the job include Sony’s own Jeff Robinov, formerly studio head at Warner Brothers, as well as film industry veterans Doug Belgrad and Michael DeLuca.
The new co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment will be officially announced sometime between now and May 2015, when Pascal is set to vacate her position. Be sure to check out Rothman’s website to stay updated on any news regarding the new position.

Every doctor at the clinic strives to provide all patients with knowledge so that they can make informed decisions. Patients typically receive unique treatment plans that are designed for their specific needs.
Conservative treatments are often recommended by the doctors. Basic options include pain medications, physical therapy, and steroid injections. At North American Spine, AccuraScope procedures provide outstanding results because they successfully correct major spine issues.
North American Spine only employs doctors who have over 10 years of medical experience. Each doctor also has an extensive background in pain management. Every doctor’s goal is to help patients so that they will have long-lasting pain relief.
Understanding The AccuraScope Procedure
AccuraScope is an exclusive North American Spine procedure that treats lower and upper back pain. Because the treatment involves a high level of precision, patients get better results and a faster recovery.
The Lumber AccuraScope Procedure helps patients who have low back pain along the lumber spine. Doctors place a flexible tube in the base of the spinal canal. Once inside, the tube can be maneuvered to various places in the lumbar spine. There is a camera in the tube that helps doctors pinpoint the causes of different lower back pain problems. Lumber AccuraScope is an outpatient procedure that can be completed in under 45 minutes.
These are the reasons why North American Spine is the leader in minimally invasive spinal care.
