The 1980s hit movie Poltergeist is getting a remake.

Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt will star in the new version as parents whose daughter is terrorized by ghosts. While the plot to the remake sounds scary, don’t expect it to be anything like the original.

According to Rockwell, the movie is less about horror and more about adventure; he goes on to call the remake a “kids’ movie”.

While many fans are happy about the Poltergeist remake, they may not be after hearing Rockwell’s comment. The scary plot is what made Steven Spielberg’s Poltergeist a hit, but diverting away from the original plot may backfire for the remake.

Will the Poltergeist remake live up to the original? Or will it tank at the box office like so many other remakes? If it is too different from the original, I know I am going to be disappointed along with other longtime horror fans like Christopher Cowdray.

Poltergeist will be released in July of this year and fans can decide for themselves if the remake lives up to its hype.
